The Street Stops Here - PBS 3.31
Last night I caught a screening of a film I worked on called “The Street Stops Here’. Film makers are lucky when we work on a subject that inspires us. Those of you who know me know that I haven’t watched basketball in years, but last night I watched basketball transform lives. I came to the project late, much of it had already been shot by a very talented DP, but I was very lucky to be able to work on as much of it as I did. I went to some neighborhoods that people shouldn’t go to at night, with little more than director Kevin Shaw’s winning smile and great attitude between me and the street. The kids that live there have little faith in themselves or their future, but basketball coach Bob Hurley won’t give up on them. He bullies, cajoles, and cares just enough to make them care about themselves.
Of the films I’ve worked on, this is one I am very proud of being a part of. The film is great, inspiring, and hopeful, also a great movie that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering if the young men on the basketball team will be able to make the championship or if they will slide under the waves of a world that doesn’t fit them. Can they shape themselves into in winning basketball team in time to win. Will the school they play for be there in a year or will the economy get the best of them ? You’ll want to see this on 31st on PBS, you’ll tell everyone to watch it, and you’ll buy copies of the DVD for the people you really care about. I know I will.
